A goat eats trash in a Garbage City street
The elderly ladies quietly cried and thanked God for the food we gave them.
They live in Garbage City in Egypt. Their barren apartment reflects their life in a country where Christians live under pervasive discrimination and persecution
Each month, we deliver food to Christian widows and families who are suffering hardships in Garbage City. This grew out of our child sponsorship program when our partner discovered grandmothers and single mothers, often ill or with disabled family members, struggling to survive by sorting through garbage.
It was not simply the gifts of food that made these elderly ladies cry. They – and other families – were moved by something with a deeper meaning.
They all profusely thanked us for the tuna fish. Our bags include hearty essentials of lentils, rice, peas, cheese, and pasta. Tuna, which is inexpensive by our standards, is a nutritious luxury for them. This item was like Christmas morning.
Their gratitude reveals that this is about more than food. Tuna symbolizes the special care and attention they feel with each bag.
After a lifetime of being mistreated, behind the tears is gratitude for being treated as a child of God.
Your generous support is helping Christians like these ladies in more ways than we can know. Will you pray that they will continue to experience God’s love through us?
These elderly ladies and other persecuted Christians reveal that they get more than food and life-giving aid from your support. Thank you for making them feel loved by God in the midst of their hardships.
”I was touched by your story of delivering tuna fish to the women in Garbage City. Truly, that story embodies the special care and attention we are called to provide as believers.”
