Congress Urged to Condemn Persecution of Christians

Massacres in Nigeria and attacks in the Middle East have sparked U.S. congressmen to introduce a resolution condemning the persecution of Christians in Muslim-majority nations

Rep. Riley M. Moore and Sen. Josh Hawley denounced the rampant violence many Christians suffer for believing in Jesus Christ. “We as lawmakers cannot continue to sit idly by,” Rep. Moore. “I urge my colleagues to join me in condemning the persecution of Christians across the globe.”

The resolution outlines the abuses Christians suffer in numerous countries. It urges the President to prioritize the protection of persecuted Christians in diplomatic engagements, trade negotiations, national security discussions, and efforts to stabilize the Middle East.

“This resolution draws attention to the atrocities being committed against Christians in Muslim majority countries. Thousands of Christians are killed, and millions suffer as Islamist extremism spreads. No one should be forced to choose between their faith and their life,” said Wendy Wright, President of Christian Freedom International.

In many of the countries mentioned in the resolution, the implementation of Islamic/Sharia law severely affects minority communities. Blasphemy laws are weaponized to silence and punish non-Muslims. In Nigeria alone, thousands of Christians have lost their lives while the government fails to take any serious actions.

This resolution urges government officials to act to the violence.

“Many of these Christians do not want to flee; they wish to remain in their homelands, practicing their faith without fear. Christian Freedom International helps persecuted Christians by providing shelter, emergency relief, life-skill training, and more to those whose lives have been upended by persecution.” said Wendy Wright, President of Christian Freedom International.

Pray for:

  • Officials to use their authority and abilities to protect Christians from abuses.
  • Christians threatened by persecution to find strength in God’s love.
  • Persecutors to reject evil, seek forgiveness for their crimes, and make restitution to those they harmed.
